Energy forms
Load Centers
- Street lighting
- Drinking water and sewage pumping
- Public institutions like schools, hospitals, places of worship like temples, clubs, parks etc.
- Household loads like room air-conditioners, refrigerators, geysers, lighting, electrical heaters etc.
The Schneider Electric Conzerv Solution
Measure
Accurate meters to account power consumption of each residence, street lighting load, common area lighting and utilities, pumping power etc.
Detect
Schneider Electric Conzerv conducts detailed energy audits in townships to detect opportunities for energy efficiency.
Control
Schneider Electric Conzerv's Energy Billing System (EBS) software generates electricity bills of each residence in the township at the end of every month automatically.
Our energy management system software (EMS) helps in controlling energy efficiency in townships
- Monitoring transmission and distribution losses in the ring main, including overhead lines, transformers, cables etc.
- Optimizing operation of the drinking water and sewage water pumps
- Transformer loading pattern and loss assessment
- Minimizing idle operation of pumps, street lights etc.
- Accounting common area lighting and utility consumption
- Load management of supply system based on time of day utilization of power
- Monitoring of load variation and control depending on seasonal variations
- Identifying misuse of electricity
Case Study
The township power is supplied from the material gate substation. Two parallel feeders of 11 kV run around the township, forming a ring main. There are 12 substations in the township. There are 21 transformers of 500 kVA each, 11 kV / 433 volts to cater the different areas of the township.
Distribution boards are provided to take care of particular applications like street lighting, cluster of quarters, pumping etc. The total consumption of the township in the year 2004 is 22.88 million units.
The present Specific Power consumption for lighting was 16.29 Watts/sq.m whereas the standard value is only 8 Watts/sq.m. The transmission and distribution losses were 1085 kWh per day which are 6% of total daily energy consumption in township . Total Transformer Losses per day were 14.7 kW due to this the per day energy loss was 353 kWh/day.
Schneider Electric Conzerv provided the following energy saving measures:
- Use of energy efficient tubes with electronic chokes in the lighting system, monetary savings of Rs. 9.73 lakhs per annum realized
- By replacing the present Incandescent Lamps with T8 tri phosphorus energy efficient 18-watt tube light and conventional ballast the savings achievable is Rs. 12.2 lakhs per annum
- Improving the power factor of the hospital side ring to reduce the transmission losses is estimated to save about Rs. 12.36 lakhs per annum.
- By switching off the alternative lights in street lighting after 23.00 hours 39 kW of savings can be achieved. As it is difficult to trace the wiring and change the same to attain the 3-phase balance load, we recommend installing timers directly on the lighting pole. The savings, which can be realized with this, are Rs.21.92 lakhs per annum with the investment of Rs.1.7 lakhs
- Reducing the lighting voltage by 18% of the existing 242 to 263 volts by use of step down transformer to save about Rs. 1.1 lakhs per annum
- Water in the township is consumed at quarters, public buildings, schools, training center and the average monthly water consumption of the township is about 4000 KL/Day. It is recommended to install a level indicator to stop supplying the water into the tank once the tank is filled, to save about Rs. 0.63 lakhs per annum.
- It is recommended to install low-flow water taps, showers. Savings due to usage of the low-flow faucets in the kitchen and bathrooms will reduce the water consumption by 30 % of the actual usage; this in turn will save the pumping power used to transfer the water
- It is recommended to replace the existing surface aerators in sewage treatment plant with Diffused Aeration to save about Rs. 0.77 lakhs per annum.
