| The awards function was the culmination of a 2 day program on Excellence in energy Management 2000.
This is the 9th annual award participation of units from all over India. There were more than 100 participants from over 45 companies.
Mr. Dilip Walse Patil, Minister for Energy ( Excluding non- Conventional energy), Higher and Technical Education, Medical Education, Govt of Maharashtra was the chief Guest.
Mr. L S Ganapathi, Chairman, National Award committee, Mr. Pradeep Bhargava, Chairman CII (Western Region ), and Managing Director, Cummins Generator Technologies Ltd. Dr. Naushad Forbes, Dy Chairman CII( Western Region) & Director, Forbes Marshall, were the other dignitaries present.
The panel of judges comprised 11 very senior eminent people from various industries like cement, power, aluminium each having more than 30years of experience.
The other category of awards :
Excellent energy efficient unit award – 105 companies sent in their nomination and 38 companies were short listed and 19 companies were given the awards.
Most useful presentation Award – All the 19 companies presented their case studies and the best were chosen for the award
Innovative Energy Saving Project award – Two companies were chosen for these awards.

A total of 15 companies sent in the questionnaire and write ups including Schneider Electric Conzerv India Pvt. Ltd.
4 companies were short listed and given awards – Schneider Electric Conzerv India Pvt. Ltd. , Cummins Power, Godrej & Boyce and Kirloskar Brothers
The minister spoke about the current shortage of power in Maharashtra which is to the tune of 4 – 5000MW, the plans of setting up 6500MW in the next two to three years and also plans of setting up 10000MW from nuclear power plant in the state when the deal is through. He also emphasised the failure of the Pune model of DSM which was set up about two years back and the need to revive this as pune is reeling under regular load shedding.
